Webinar Details:  This webinar will explore the fundamental and applied aspects of inhalation pharmaceuticals in the context of currently-marketed inhalation aerosol products. In addition, future prospects will be presented in the context of novel research, cutting edge technologies, unmet medical needs in pulmonary medicine and regulatory considerations. In addition, the properties of the main types of pulmonary delivery systems used clinically and formulation properties will be presented. The interplay between lung physiology, pulmonary disease states, lung-particle biophysical interactions, formulation properties, device design and aerosol performance will be described in the context of clinically treating various types of pulmonary diseases with inhalation aerosol medicine for pulmonary diseases and non-pulmonary diseases.

Presenter Information:  Heidi M. Mansour, PhD, is a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy and the BIO5 Research Institute at The University of Arizona (UA) in Tucson, Arizona, US, with faculty member affiliations in the UA Institute of the Environment and the UA Comprehensive Cancer Center. She has published 60 peer-reviewed scientific journal papers, 8 book chapters, more than 70 scientific conference abstracts, and is co-editor of a book published in 2013 by CRC Press/Taylor & Francis. Her research program has produced Assistant Professors employed at research universities in the US and the Republic of South Korea and Senior Research Scientists employed at major US pharmaceutical companies. She has been the recipient of UNC-Chapel Hill Postdoctoral Award for Research Excellence from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the AAPS Postdoctoral Fellow Award in Research Excellence and the PhRMA Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in Pharmaceutics. She is an expert member of NIH NICHD US Pediatric Formulations Initiative (PFI) New Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS) Aerosols Working Group. She regularly serves as an expert reviewer for scientific journals and grant funding agencies including NIH study sections and serves on the editorial advisory boards for several journals.

Guest Moderator Information:  Daryl L. Roberts, PhD is co-inventor of the Next Generation Impactor (NGI) and has developed practical methods to allow impactor users to determine whether impactors are suitably within compendial specifications. He has helped develop a family of labor-saving equipment that assists users to recover drug products from impactors in a manner suitable for quantitative analysis. At MSP Corporation, he is responsible for strategic marketing of all MSP products. Dr. Roberts is a guest member of the Impactor Subgroup of EPAG, a contributor to the USP Aerosol Experts Committee, on the editorial board of Inhalation and a regular contributor and reviewer of articles for the Journal of Aerosol Medicine and for Aerosol Science and Technology.
