Securing Safe Food is a United States national nonprofit organization that coordinates the consistent donation and distribution of allergen-free foods and educational materials to select US food pantries. Since its founding, SSF has distributed more than 100,000 allergen-free food items and currently serves approximately 30 pantries. Its staff of a dozen volunteers is led by high school and university undergraduate students.
SSF requires pantries to keep donated foods separated for visitors who have food allergies or medically necessary dietary restrictions. They collaborate with medical centers, enabling clinicians to direct patients to local pantries stocked with allergen-free foods provided through SSF. They work with allergen-friendly and gluten-free food manufacturers to supply pantries with regular shipments of safe food, acting as the intermediary in the delivery process. SSF also provides accessible educational materials and training to pantry staffs.
